“An Aesthetic Journey in the Footsteps of Van Gogh: Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Faculty of Education, Department of Art and Crafts Teaching Students Created Art Projects That Touched Walls and Hearts.
Within the scope of the “Community Service Practices” course of the Art Teaching Department of the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Faculty of Education, two projects were developed in cooperation with the Çanakkale 18 Mart Primary School Directorate in 2024-2025 academic year.
1. Project: “Aesthetic Touches Series” Wall Painting. This work is a hybrid painting created based on Van Gogh’s works ‘Starry Night’ and ‘Sunflowers’. A composition was made by bringing together two iconic paintings of the artist in a new integrity. This hybrid painting was painted onto the walls of the school’s multi-purpose hall.
2. Project: “Picture Reading” Activities. “Painting Readings” were directed with selected paintings from Van Gogh for the 1/D class students of the school. In accordance with the periodic development of the children, information about the visual language and content structures of the works were given to the students and “readings” were held. Afterwards, activities inspired by Van Gogh were implemented. The aim of this project was to introduce children to the world of art, artists and introduce them to works of art, to support the artistic development of the child, and to develop their aesthetic taste and perception.
An exhibition and opening consisting of these project works was organized at 18 March Primary School on June 02, 2025.
